Astley offers a highly unique creative delivery service to support companies like Acrylicize with the production and installation of their amazing installations.

For this particular piece, Acrylicize were tasked by their client to produce a fully-functional timepiece, which was to be hung in the atrium area at Senator House, London, which is over six stories high. This ‘clock’ was going to be an international timepiece and use elements to display the actual time in different countries around the world.

Our Creative delivery team worked alongside Acrylicize to construct and install this impressive installation, with production taking just over 8 weeks, and installation just over 2. All work had to be completed out of hours to meet with the necessary health and safety regulations.

The whole piece was hung from a customised gantry system, driven by Prostar Staging motors up and down the six stories to fulfil building maintenance requirements.

On completion, the timepiece automatically illuminated designated digits to denote the time, and colours alternated depending on an individual country’s hour. All were controlled by the server linked to Greenwich mean time.

Throughout this project we worked closely with both Acrylicize and sub-contractors to ensure that the installation was safe and fully functional. It was also important that the client had full control over the units and was able to effectively maintain them so we also constructed a suspended platform gantry that could be lifted and lowered with motors to allow for the cleaning of the letters.

We were incredibly proud to be awarded with the Best Overall Sign of the Year 2015 at the annual British Sign Industry Awards for this project as well as being honoured as the FESPA Gold Winner in the Non-Printed category in their 2016 awards.
