Excellence across multiple requirements

Astley has helped to deliver consistent, high-quality signage programmes for the Co-op across new store developments, petrol filling stations (PFS), and refurbishments following their acquisition of Sommerfield.

In 2019, we secured the contract to supply both internal and external signage for Co-op Food, Funeralcare, NISA, and supply-only signage components for reactive maintenance. Working across their various formats ensured the Co-op brand remained strong and consistent at every customer touchpoint.

We’re also proud to have helped deliver their award-winning “eco store” concept—an multi award-winning (both at POPAI and UK Graphic Awards) innovative format that reflects modern retail values and environmental commitment. Our role included not only manufacturing and installing branded assets for these stores, but also contributing to the design development through our in-house creative services.

The requirements

As with any leading FMCG brand, the Co-op required a branding partner than understood the high levels of expectation for seamless delivery and the ability to offer a concept-to-completion solution. Their stores needed sensitive brand application, taking into account a variety of building architecture across their estate that required the expertise to understand how the brand could work most effectively.

Working out of hours and ensuring that health and safety compliancy was delivered as standard was also essential to keep business working as usual.

Finally, the Co-op brand demanded a partner who was considerate of sustainable working practices at all stages and who could demonstrate a proactive alignment with their own values.

Our solution

astley provided a holistic solution by integrating in-house design services with expert manufacturing and installation. Our designers work within the Co-op’s brand guidelines to identify site-specific branding needs, creating signage packs that are both visually aligned and manufacturing-ready. This streamlined approach keeps the entire signage process—from design to delivery—under one roof.

Our involvement with their ‘labstore’ concept rollout, which earned industry recognition at POPAI and UUK Graphic Awards, is a testament to the value we bring in aligning sustainability with smart, scalable signage solutions.

PFS specialist expertise to accompany store branding

Alongside our capabilities to handle the branding of retail, F&B and FMCG spaces, we are also considered the ‘go to’ branding partner within the PFS sector.

With in-house BS EN 1090 certified fabrication for structural fabrication (eg.totems) and specialist enhanced certification for those working on these types of site, we are the ideal partner for clients that also have forecourts within their estate.
