Metalwork Team Leader

Astley is an award winning UK Company, providing complete signage and graphics solutions from concept design, through to final installation.
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Team Leader for our Metalwork department in Gateshead, producing high quality bespoke signage for leading brands in the UK. This role will be to support the Metalworks Controller, facilitating job allocation and assisting with the reporting processes within the department. There is also the possibility of development and growth within this role for the right candidate.

Responsibilities and key tasks:

  • Ensure that all individuals are fully aware of their ongoing work queues at all times
  • Expedite materials and paperwork where necessary to avoid lost time between jobs
  • To ensure that all jobs flow seamlessly through the department and different production areas
  • Ensure that items move from production area to production area (e.g. from metalwork to paint prep) in a controlled and timely manner
  • Maintain and promote a high level of organisation in the work area, in accordance with 5S principles
  • Contribute to the investigation of NCRs
  • Monitor and eliminate hazards from the area, taking proactive action to prevent recurrence
  • Participate in projects to identify improved manufacturing methods that reduce work content
  • To assist the Metalworks Controller with any other department responsibilities

This is a role model position, and the Team Leader is therefore also expected to:

  • Improve safety levels by addressing risks and hazards as they arise
  • Promote the application of 5S to improve workplace organisation
  • Take proactive action to reduce the 7 wastes
  • Address inefficiencies in current manufacturing methods

It is anticipated that the role will require the incumbent to be indirect around 2hrs per day.

Ideal experience and characteristics:

  • Management of a team in a high paced production environment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, leading by example.
  • Sheet metal experience
  • MIG welding of aluminium
  • Experience of general metalworking equipment such as press, guillotine, bending rolls etc extremely advantageous
  • Attention to detail and an eye for quality
  • Professional and friendly manner with strong team ethics
  • Reliable, trustworthy and honest
